Education

Alex began his musical education at five years old, when his grandfather began teaching him songs on the guitar. Throughout his childhood, Alex was frequently presented with opportunities to play and grow musically through his dad, an active drummer and percussionist.

During high school, he studied at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University through the pre-college program with saxophonists Brian Utley and Denis Solee. He was also able to take music theory and music history courses through this program.

He attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Studio Music & Jazz. There, he was able to study with outstanding musicians like Gregory Tardy, Vance Thompson, Donald Brown, Jon Hamar, Keith Brown, Mark Boling, Shelley Binder, Mark Tucker, and many others.

After his graduation in 2017, Alex spent six months working aboard the Crystal Symphony cruise ship, where he played alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, clarinet, and flute in the ship’s orchestra.

In 2018, Alex returned to the University of Tennessee to earn his MBA while staying active in the Knoxville and Nashville music scenes, and graduated in 2019.

Alex currently lives and works in Seattle, Washington with his wife Brielle and dog Bandy.
